Massive Sea Turtle Release Following Unexpected Dangerous Winter Storm
No one was prepared for the winter storm that slammed into the gulf coast these past two weeks, and neither were the sea turtles. Record cold temperatures resulted in hundreds of cold-stunned victims of the elements, and volunteers as well as staff worked tirelessly to rescue each and every turtle, warming them up in specially-designed incubators to give them the best chance of survival. On Sunday at the Padre Island National Sea Shore in Corpus Christi, 395 sea turtles were released following their warming period and a large audience was able to view the successful operation. All of these turtles were victims of the recent storm and only through the endless dedication of workers were they able to survive.
