Queensland wildlife experts protecting vulnerable turtles

Greening Australia field officer Kymberly Robertson boards a tinny six days a week to inspect the nests of the bum-breathing Fitzroy River turtle in order to protect their eggs and hatchlings from predators. And while she is busy ensuring their safety, she is also on the lookout for crocodiles. “When we’re getting in and out of the boat we always have a spotter,” she said. “There’s always one team member doing something and another team member always keeping an eye out, keeping as far away from the edge of the water as possible โ€” preferably more than five metres,” she said.
