Nesting Record-Breaking Season in Florida

While last year’s total number of sea turtle nests was 2,802, this year’s total is 4,193. On a distance that spreads 35 miles at least one turtle egg has hatched on each Mote-monitored beach. To help with the hatchling disorientation problem, the Town of Longboat Key will reinforce its Marine Turtle Protection Ordinance to improve the management of artificial lighting and obstacles.
