Doston Drive Construction Might Not Harm Blanding’s Turtles

No evidence of the presence of Blanding’s turtles was found on the construction site. Despite the report of a jogger who believe she spotted a turtle last summer, further investigations denied this report. An habitat assessment and migration plan was conducted by the Ames School Board along with Griggs Environmental Services. The Director of Facilities Planning and Management visited the construction site daily to check for the presence of a Blanding’s turtle. Despite the construction of a turtle fence around the construction zone there are no ways to actually ensure that there are no turtles at all.
